How to Donate Hair to Children With Hair Loss

Your hair can help a child feel confident, supported, and seen. Here’s how to make your donation count.

Step 1: Measure Your Hair

• Minimum donation length is 8 inches

• Hair must be clean and dry

• Layered hair is okay as long as the shortest layer meets the minimum

Step 2: Prep for the Cut

• Wash and dry your hair thoroughly—no product (no gel, conditioner, or spray)

• Gather hair into a tight ponytail or braid, secured at both ends

• If your hair is thick, divide it into multiple ponytails to preserve length

Step 3: Cut and Package

• Cut above the top elastic to keep the hair bundled

• Place the ponytail(s) in a ziplock bag

• Put the bag in a sealed envelope or padded mailer
